________________ 290 Jesus, it can only be at the cost of philosophical merit. Similarly, the declaration, “ Verily I say unto you there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom (Matthew, XVI. 28), can have absolutely no reference to Jesus, except as a member of the human race. Mark records the statement as well, but he gives it thus: THE KEY OF KNOWLEDGE. "Verily I say unto you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power."-(Mark, IX. 1.) Jain Education International "" Luke, also, puts "The Kingdom of God" in place of the "Son of man in his kingdom." It lands us in all sorts of absurdities to think that the "Son of man means Jesus, and the Kingdom of God" heaven after resurrection in some other world. The true and natural sense is that as by the fall of Adam is understood a state of fallen degeneracy, so by the coming of the son of man into his kingdom' is meant the attainment of Godhood by the soul. This is what Jesus referred to when he said, "What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?" It is the realization by man of his glorious, divine nature which is spoken of here. " Ascension does not mean a going up to heaven, body and all, but something very different. We shall, however, reserve a consideration of this doctrine for a later and more appropriate occasion; for the present it is sufficient to point out that it is impossible that Jesus could have ascended to heaven in the way which a literal interpretation of the Bible would suggest.
