between 1939–1959 containing the Prakrit text by Puşpadanta and Bhūtabali, the tīkā in Sanskrit called Dhavalā by Vīrasena (eighth century) and a Hindi translation. The debate about the antiquity of the text appears in the fourth Șvetāmbara upānga, the Pannavaņāsuttam (Prajñāpanasūtra), published in two volumes in 1971. In the second volume of the work, pp. 223-231 there is a section titled “Prajñāpanasūtra and șațkhandāgama" and the Digambaras on their part, in the first volume of the ȘkhĀ, have a section entitled “Şarkhandāgama and Prajñāpanasūtra”. Without going into the details here, it is clear that the Șvetāmbaras too regard the Șațkhaņdāgama as a “masterpiece” and that “it is doubtless the oldest available text containing a vast mass of details relating to the Karma doctrine”. Moreover, in view of its old age, the ȘkhĀ serves as an important source for verifying what has become a traditional use of terms for both Digambaras and Șvetāmbaras. There is still a great deal to be done on the Șkhā to sift out the early philosophical ideas in Indian thought.
