________________ 5. Philosophy through Apabhraṁśa: Apabhraṁśa was a powerful Language in which the religious texts of the Saivas were composed. Abhinavagupta's Tantrasāra appends a corroborative Apabhramsa verse at the end of each chapter. The Jaina and Buddhist philosophical Apabhramśa texts have their own characteristics and impor tance. 6. Conclusion: The competence of Prakrit to fulfil its mission is unquestionable. Freedom of thought, freshness of ideas and direct experience characterize the contents of Prakrit and Pali literature. The only serious demerit of the Prakrits is their ephemeral character. In spite of this handicap, the Prakrit texts still remain an indisputable source of valuable information about our ancient thought and culture.
