The Government of India in pursuance of the recommendations of the Sanskrit Commission (1956-1957), established the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan on 15th October, 1970 as an autonomous organization for the purpose of implementing the policies and programmes of the Central Government for the development, propagation and promotion of Sanskrit. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India has declared it as Deemed University on 7th May, 2002.
Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan is the biggest institute on amongst the Sanskrit Universities, it is the only multi campuses Sanskrit University.
The objectives of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, as has been declared in “Memorandum of Association", Some of those are as under:
OBJECTIVES
The objectives for which the institute is established are to propagate, develop and encourage traditional Sanskrit learning, research and in pursuance thereof:
i.
To undertake, aid, promote, co-ordinate research in all branches of Sanskrit learning including teachers training and manuscriptology, to bring out inter-linkage with the outcome of modern research in the contextually relevant fields and to bring out publications.
