________________ APPENDICES: 9-10 In this hymn Padmavati is described as 'Mantrarūpā ca Mantrajnā Mantradā Mantrasāgarā' identifying her with Mantra. We would note here some of the important appellations identifying her with various well-known deities: Lakṣmi, Mahālakṣmi, Kamalā, Srīrupā, Ramā, Maheśvari, Mahādevī, Šivā, Sati, Candi, Durgā, Vṛṣārūdhā, Bhuvanesvarī, Sarasvati, Bhārati, Sadhvi, Bhagavati, Khecarī, Kāmadhenu, Kālī, Kālikā, Bālā, Vajrā, Vedamātā, Vīramātā, Jinamātā, Jaineśvarī, Yogini, Yogeśvarī, Nāginī, Nāgakanyā, Nāganātheśavallabhā, Bhujagākāraśāyinī, Kundalinī, Satcakrabhedavikhyātā, Lilavati, Tripura, Sundari, Tripurasundari, Tripurabhairavi, Bhairavī, Bhīmā, Tārā, Totală, Tvarita, Kāmasādhinī, Katyāyani, Sivadūti, Gauri, Gāndhārī, Jwālinī, Jwālāmukhī, Ambikā, Cakreśvarī, Cintamani, Jayā, Vijayā, Jayanti, Omkararūpā, Hrimkārarūpā, Tārā and Tārāmānavimardini. From the last appellation which is found in v. 29 of Padmavatyaṣṭaka, we may surmise that probably this hymn was composed after the redaction of Padmavatyaṣṭaka i. e. circa 17th century Vikrama era as we surmise that to be the date of the redactor (perhaps some Jayavijaya see v. 33) of Padmavatyaṣṭaka. Nothing is known about the author of Padmavatisahasranama. 315 APPENDIX 9 This appendix 9 also contains a hymn of Padmavati containing identifications of Sri Padmavati with well-known deities. Some of them not already noted above are Vairoṭya, Prajnapti, Mahākālī, Bhadrakali, Kāmākṣā, Jagadambā, Annapurṇā, Srividya, Bhavani, Matangi, Rājamātangi, Hingulāja, Pītā (not Piṭhā) or Bagalamukhi, Vägvādini, Saradā, Kuṣmaṇdi, Sākambharī, Camunda, Mahāmāyā, Gayatri, Vardhamānavidyā and Bahubali. Her Vāhanas are said to be the lion and the swan. V. 11 refers to the single lettered, threelettered, six-lettered and fifteen-lettered Vidyas of Sri Padmavati. We are unable to trace the author of this hymn.
