SUTRA 42
173 of existence every moment.
The modifications which the six dravyas undergo have been divided into two classes. arthaparyāya and vyañjana-paryāya. All the six dravyas have the former but the latter is associated with spirit and matter only. The former refers to the intrinsic changes in dravyas while the latter has a somewhat fixed duration of existence. For instance, a pot is a vyañjana par yāya of matter;
arly men and animals are vyañjana-paryavas of the soul substance. Read also pages 75-78 in this connection.
In the Svetambara text the following three sutras occur in addition :
अनादिरादिमांश्च। रूपिष्वादिमान्।
and
योगोपयोगी जीवेषु। (The modification may be of eternal or transient nature. Eternal changes occur in non-corporal dravyas, Soul, Space, and Media of motion and rest. Modification in matter are of transient nature.
Digambaras have also contributed to these ideas in the commentary Tattvartha-rajavartika with some modifications but we omit a detailed description because of their little importance.
This brings us to the end of our journey.
