Or where there is ill feeling towards him from the people around him (this is for the beginner). The reason is that if he stays in such places he will not be able to accomplish what he wishes to accomplish. 7. He should live in a State or Country where he will have adequate protection of his life and property from the rulers. If he lives where crimes go on unpunished he is liable to be disturbed. Rule 8. The layman should get the company of genteel people who appreciate good, whose actions are right, whose conduct is of the right kind, and who are always partial for virtue ; and whom he considers examples to be followed. 9. With regard to the home or house he wishes to establish, if any. There should not be bones underneath: the spot were it is built should not be too open nor too inuch concealed. (This applied more especially to India in the past). The house should not be among quarrelsome, undesirable neighbours. 10. He should dress according to his means ; should not spend beyond his means on dress; and if he has the means to dress extravagantly still he should not do so; the dress should not be too showy. 11.
