________________ 88 M. A. MEHENDALE their life, two forest bulls with ten ropes". This may be compareri with Geldner's translation : "Wie Zwei im Walde streifende Räuber, die ihr Leben einsetzen, haben (beide Arme) mit zehn Stricken (das Reibholz) festgebunden." This translation does not make clear what the robbers hold fast, and Geldner has to supply traveller' as also is done by Sāyana (pathika), Durga (adhvaga). and Skanda Maheśvara (kaścit). 20. For parusåso, there is a variant reading puruşáso. But in that case there is the difficulty about the accent since purusa is accented on the first syllable. Moreover puruşásaḥ, by the side of kaváyah, has hardly anything significant to convey. 21. Thus in the TS and the AV ekavrt means "einfach" according to BR (hence from V vst), but "einzig umgebend" according to Hertel (hence from Vvr).
