(the world is my family) become second nature to him. So you see, sectarianism divides, and dharma unites. The time has come to bring about change-we don't have a need for sectarianism, we have a need for dharma.
The word "Hindu" has appeared in the Rig Veda, in the Garud Purana, Vishnu Purana and several other sacred texts, and also in the religious scriptures of the Jains called Vasudev Hidi . The meaning of "Hin" is violence, and "Du" means one who is far from hinsa (violence). That is, one who keeps away from violence, is a Hindu. If a Hindu commits acts of violence he is not considered a Hindu.
The earth is our family. When love grows within us, we begin to love all creatures as our own.
Lord Mahavir has said that until you learn to love the plants, the trees, the animals, and the birds, humanity's place on this planet will not be secure. Animals, birds and plants can live without us, but we cannot live without them. That is why it is imperative that we care about them and respect their right to live.
Why did terrorism raise its head?
On the one hand there is a man who has so much wealth that he does not know how to spend it, and on the other is a man who is so poor that he does not have enough to eat. So there is conflict between them, and conflict leads to terrorism. If there is feeling of unity among people, then destructive actions will cease.
I feel that we are at fault for letting sectarianism raise its head because we sided with sectarianism, instead of religious unity. If we had taken care to preach about unity of religions, then all these religious conflicts and terrorist activites would not have happened. Religion bestows peace, religion never destroys. If this feeling of oneness arises in a human being, that all religions preach the same thing, then conflicts in the world will disappear.
