Even though he was just 14 years old, Amar had a lot of inner conviction. He replied courteously: Sir, there is no place for doubt or fear in my heart. What you term as hardships are but challenges for a true seeker. They can be overcome by one's own determination. And steady determination and faith give the impetus to conquer all obstacles.
The gentleman saw that he was not getting anywhere by talking about hardships. Actually he was childless and looking for an heir and thought that he had found an ideal candidate in Amar. He wanted to adopt Amar. He offered to give Amar his business and wealth if he would become his adopted son.
Amar laughed and replied: I am not desirous of wealth...my family is wealthy enough. Can't you see? I do not want earthly gains... I want eternal bliss.
Defeated, the gentleman went away, and left Amar alone.
Initiation Festivities
There was great joy in Banga at the prospect of Amar's initiation. The residents of Banga brought a horse and decorated it with colourful cloth hangings. To the resounding chants of the happy throng Amar was placed on top of the horse. The procession which now consisted of more than a thousand people then started winding its way through the streets of Banga.
It had just reached the middle of the bazaar when a group of Amar's family members arrived. With angry cries they stopped the procession. They argued that they had not given their permission for Amar's initiation.
On hearing the commotion Shri Shukal Chand Ji Maharaj summoned the people to him. He was a powerful saint with formidable eloquence. In no time at all he had convinced them to allow Amar to go ahead. The family members, now a docile and willing group, agreed to participate in the initiation festivities.
