Importance of Shivratri, Symbols of Shiva, Rudraksh
On the spinal cord there is a channel called the neural canal. The neural canal is not continuously open all the time. On the neural canal between the sex organs and the navel there is a constriction. This constriction is called the "Brahmagranthi". Granthi means knot. The second constriction is between the heart lotus ie. Anahata chakra and the throat lotus ie. Vishuddhi chakra. This is called "Vishnugranthi". The third constriction corresponds to the eyebrow centre but lies directly behind it this is called "Rudragranthi". Three times a year they open up on their own and allow a free passage for the cerebrospinal fluid to go up and down along with the kundalini. The first time is Shivratri, the second time is Vyasa Purnima, and the third time is Sharada Navratri. In Sharada Navratri, the first three days are for Durga, the next three days are for Lakshmi and the final three days are for Saraswati. During the first three days the Brahmagranthi will open, the next three days the Vishnugranthi will open and the last three days the Rudragranthi will open and its only in the Naumi that all three will be completely open together. Then after Dussehra (Dashmi) they will start to close again. During these days you should chant whatever mantras you know. It is does not matter in the least bit, which religion or text they are from
These 3 Granthis open automatically for everyone during these days of the year. On Shivratri, the kundalini energy flows freely up and down the channel. After the night of Shivratri, ie after the Brahm Mahurtam next morning, the granthis start to close up. Any prayer chanted during Shivratri bears fruit 108,000 times! At this time if you chant a mantra (any mantra) once, it has the effect of 108,000 chantings. That is the real importance of Shivratri which people who had the knowledge hid from others. Thus everyone should chant, as
