speaking, earthquakes are said to be caused by a movement in the surface tectonic plates of the earth due to changes in its inner core. By studying the waves generated by earthquakes, scientists have been able to understand a little bit about changes in the earth's core that cause them. This is one explanation. However there are several causes of earthquakes, not just one. Almost all the studies on the causes of earthquakes have looked at physical reasons only.
However there was one interesting research undertaken in the mid nineties which looked at some other reasons for earthquakes.
In 1995, three researchers of Delhi University- Dr Madan Mohan Bajaj, Dr MSM Abraham and Dr Vijay Raj Singh showed that in Sudgal, Russia the cries of pain emitted by slaughtered animals caused tremors in the earth.
On the basis of their study they presented evidence that proved that earthquakes occur when there is violence, murder, cruelty, slaughtering of animals and war . Of course this does not negate the other natural phenomena which lead to earthquakes.
In short we can say that if violence is reduced or stopped, then natural calamities will either become limited or their severity will be reduced.
"Etiology of Earthquakes - A New Approach” is the book published by these 3 scientists that looks at the occurrence of earthquakes in this new light. If we ignore these findings and fail to act on them then the results will be catastrophic.
Using Newton's three laws of motion they have proved that if fishing along the coastline of India is not controlled and plundering of marine resources continues unchecked then storms and cyclones are likely to occur in the coastal states of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh.
