Greatness is achieved by one who does good deeds:
It is by one's good deeds that a human being becomes great. In the past there have lived many such good souls and even today we see a glimpse of their greatness. Friends, in this time of Kalyug, evil is on the rise. However those who live their life righteously will rise to the top in the time ahead. In fact even today the world is resting on the pious deeds performed by right living people. Thus we see that living a righteous life is for our own good. One who does good deeds for others, finds that his own interests are taken care of in his work for others.
Here is a story:
A poor woman wanted to know when her family would become rich so she told her son to go to a learned Mahatma (holy man) and ask him. So the boy set off to find him.
On the way, the boy met a woman who had a daughter who could not speak. The girl's mother wanted to know when she would get married. The boy said he would ask the Mahatma and proceeded on his way. While walking he met a monk who also had a question.... He wanted to know when he would get enlightened. The boy said he would ask the Mahatma and proceeded on his way.
Soon he met a farmer who had a plot of land where no plants grew. He wanted to know how to make the land fertile. Again the boy said that he would ask the Mahatma and carried on walking.
Finally the boy reached the Mahatma's ashram.
Unfortunately the Mahatma gave him permission to ask only three questions. The boy was in a quandrary. He had four questions (including his own) but was only allowed to ask three. He thought of the unfortunate girl, the monk and poor farmer and decided to ask their questions and drop his own. After getting the answers he returned to his mother.
