This Iranian influence reached India in several waves, getting modified on the way. Hence it is that we do not find a cent per cent Iranian form or design, even at Navdatoli where the Iranian influence seems to be the strongest. The resultant product, as I have said above, was like thc Maurya or the Mughal, a typical culture, with a definiteln Iranian impact on it.
Iran and Western Asia for their ultimate origin, though we cannot say who the people were, who brought these ideas to India. The Aryan-or Sanskrit-speaking people might be one of these groups, However, there is little doubt that depending upon the original impetus, the people, or ideas having once reached India soon got crystalized into various regional cultures, which we today call Malwa, Khandesh, Vidarbha, Maharashtra and Saurashtra, (Sankalia, Science Today, Sepember 1967).
CONCLUSION
Thus though the Iranian influence is undoubted on the develop nent in t even th birth of the Chalcolithic cultures of Rjasth in, M.Iwi and the Deccan, between say 2000 B. C. and 1000 BC, still we are not yet in a position to explain everything that occurs in India, and the route or by which th: influe ice have travelled. In every case the indigenous elements have so modified the parent foreign elements that, as in the Maury and the Mughal, we cannot designate the resulting cultures as Iranian though the Iranian web is indeed there. This was loug suspected owing to the linguistic affiniiy of Sanskrit with other Indo European groups of languages, particularly the Avestan. This almost invisible web is at least being detected by archaeology as a result of the last 20 years' work in Indian sub-coniinent.
