________________ ન્યાયકુસુમાંજલિ [424x ant named Chilati. Chilati-putra was entrusted with the work of guardianship-companionship of Susama. As he was very strong, he used to harass the people of the city. So, they complained about it first o L'hana-sartħavaha and in the end informed the Kotval (police-officer ) of the place. Being afraid of the king, the merchant dismissed Chilati-putra rom his house. Thereafter, he went to the rendezvous of thieves known as Simha-gufa and in their ompany he went from bad to worse. He was appointed their head to succeed the one who died. During this time Susama attained ber youth and became well-versed in several arts. Chilatiputra had not forgotten the ill-treatment he was meeted out by the S'reshthin and was even now pining away for Susanur; he decided to take revenge ipon the Sreshthin by plundering his wealth and depriving him of his only daughter Susama. Thereupon he called his companions together and said to them, “ There lives in Rajagriha Dhana-sarthavaha, who has amassed immense wealth and has a charm. ing daughter Susama. To-night we shall go to his place; whatever wealth we get, I shall give over to you and I shall only reserve Susama as my share. Accordingly, thóy started that night for Rajagriha.
