[ Surya Prajnapti Sutra
It is said that the diameter and circumference are measured by the Aṇiya, what is the reason for that?
So, on this Jambudvipa island, in all the islands and oceans, in all the interiors, in all the corners, it extends up to a thousand yojanas in diameter and circumference, three hundred thousand yojanas, two hundred and twenty-seven yojanas, three kosas, twenty-eight dhanus, thirteen angulas, and a little more than half an angula in circumference.
1. The sun travels in a circle, encompassing all the interiors, and its speed is forty-eight parts of a yojana out of sixty-one parts, with a diameter and circumference of nine thousand nine hundred and sixty-four yojanas,
three hundred thousand yojanas, fifteen thousand yojanas, and one hundred and ninety-nine yojanas, with a little more than half an angula in circumference.
It takes eighteen muhurtas to reach the highest point in the sky, and twelve muhurtas to reach the lowest point.
2. When the sun sets, it travels in a circle encompassing the inner interior for nine years, starting from the first day and night.
When the sun travels in a circle encompassing the inner interior, its speed is forty-eight parts of a yojana out of sixty-one parts,
nine thousand nine hundred and sixty-four yojanas, six hundred and forty-five yojanas, and thirty-five parts of a yojana in diameter and circumference,
three hundred thousand yojanas, fifteen thousand yojanas, and one hundred yojanas, with a little more than half an angula in circumference.
1. The Surya Prajnapti and Jambudvipa Prajnapti Sutras mention the diameter and circumference of the solar system, but the Samavayaanga Sutra only mentions the circumference. The solution is that the diameter and circumference of a circle are always equal, and the solar system is circular, so by mentioning only the circumference, both the diameter and circumference should be understood.
The Surya Prajnapti states that the outer diameter of the solar system is forty-eight parts of a yojana out of sixty-one parts. The Jambudvipa Prajnapti states that the outer diameter of the solar system is twenty-four parts of a yojana out of sixty-one parts. It is a matter of research which of these two types of outer diameter measurements is real. The Surya Prajnapti states that the diameter, circumference, and perimeter of the solar system are irregular compared to the inner and outer circles, but the Jambudvipa Prajnapti does not state that the diameter, circumference, and perimeter of the solar system are irregular.
In the Jambudvipa Prajnapti, the diameter, circumference, and perimeter of the solar system are mentioned, but are they for the inner or outer circles? Because the diameter, circumference, and perimeter measurements mentioned in the Surya Prajnapti for the inner and outer circles do not match the diameter, circumference, and perimeter measurements mentioned in the Jambudvipa Prajnapti.
