Gautam! It is said to be an antarmuhurt (less than one muhurt or 48 minutes) consisting of innumerable Samayas (the ultimate fractional unit of time that cannot be divided any further; the smallest unit of time).
१४३. केवलिसमुग्धाए णं भंते ! कइसमइए पण्णत्ते ?
गोयमा ! अट्ठसमइए पण्णत्ते । तं जहा- पढमे समए दंडं करेइ, बिईए समए कवाडं करेइ, तइए समए मंथं करेइ, चउत्थे समए लोयं पूरेइ, पंचमे समए लोयं पडिसाहरइ, छ समए मंथं पडिसाहरइ, सत्तमे समए कवाडं पडिसाहरइ, अट्ठमे समए दंडं पडिसाहरइ । तओ पच्छा सरीरत्थे भवइ ।
१४३. भगवन् ! केवली - समुद्घात कितने समय का कहा है ?
गौतम ! केवली - समुद्घात आठ समय का कहा गया है। पहले समय में केवली ऊर्ध्वलोक तथा अधोलोक के अंत तक आत्म-प्रदेशों को विस्तीर्ण कर दण्ड के आकार में फैलाते हैं। दूसरे समय में केवली आत्म-प्रदेशों को कपाटाकार विस्तीर्ण करते हैं अर्थात् आत्म-प्रदेश पूर्व तथा पश्चिम दिशा में फैलकर कपाट का आकार धारण कर लेते हैं। तीसरे समय में केवली उन्हें मन्थानाकार करते हैं - आत्म- प्रदेश दक्षिण तथा उत्तर दिशा में फैलकर मथानी का आकार ले लेते हैं। चौथे समय में केवली लोकशिखर सहित सम्पूर्ण लोक के अन्तरालों (बीच के खाली स्थान को) आत्म-प्रदेशों से भर देते हैं। पाँचवें समय में उसी के विलोम क्रम में अन्तराल स्थित आत्म-प्रदेशों का संहरण करते हैं। छठे समय में मन्थानी के आकार में अवस्थित आत्म-प्रदेशों का संहरण करते हैं। सातवें समय में कपाट के आकार में स्थित आत्म-प्रदेशों को वापस संकुचित करते हैं। आठवें समय में दण्ड के आकार में स्थित आत्म- प्रदेशों का प्रतिसंहरण करते हैं। तत्पश्चात् वे (पूर्ववत्) अपने शरीर में स्थित हो जाते हैं।

It is said to be eight Samayas (the smallest unit of time) In the first Samaya the Kevali expands his soul-spacepoints to envelope space from lowest tip of the lower world (hells) to the highest tip of the upper world (heavens) in shape of a stick (cylindrical). In the second Samaya he expands his soul-spacepoints laterally from east to west taking the shape of a door (cubical but flat).
