attractive, spectacular and beautiful. They were filled with the * excitement of expectancy to behold Bhagavan. They had all the qualities found in gods (already mentioned).

३८. (क) तए णं चंपाए णयरीए सिंघाडग-तिग-चउक्क-चच्चर-चउम्मुहमहापह-पहेसु महया जणसद्दे इ वा, बहुजणसद्दे इ वा, जणवाए इ वा, जणुल्लावे इ वा, जणवहे इ वा, जणबोले इ वा, जणकलकले इ वा, जणुम्मी इ वा, जणुक्कलिया इ वा, जणसण्णिवाए इ वा, बहुजणो अण्णमण्णस्स एवमाइक्खइ, एवं भासइ, एवं पण्णवेइ, एवं परूवेइ
एवं खलु देवाणुप्पिया ! समणे भगवं महावीरे आइगरे, तित्थगरे सयंसंबुद्धे, पुरिसुत्तमे जाव संपाविउकामे पुलाणुपुब्बिं चरमाणे, गामाणुग्गामं दूइज्जमाणे इहमागए, इहसंपत्ते, * इह समोसढे, इहेव चंपाए णयरीए बाहिं पुण्णभद्दे चेइए अहापडिरूवं उग्गहं उग्गिण्हित्ता * संजमेणं तवसा अप्पाणं भावमाणे विहरइ।
__ तं महप्फलं खलु भो देवाणुप्पिया ! तहारूवाणं अरहंताणं भगवंताणं णामगोयस्स वि
सवणयाए, किमंग पुण अभिगमण-वंदण-णमंसण-पडिपुच्छण-पज्जुवासणयाए ? ॐ एगस्स वि आरियस्स धम्मियस्स सुवयणस्स सवणयाए, किमंग पुण विउलस्स अट्ठस्स गहणयाए ?
तं गच्छामो णं देवाणुप्पिया ! समणं भगवं महावीरं वंदामो, णमंसामो, सक्कारेमो सम्माणेमो, कल्लाणं मंगलं, देवयं चेइयं (विणएणं), पज्जुवासामो, एयं णं पेच्चभवे । इहभवे य हियाए, सुहाए, खमाए, निस्सेयसाए, आणुगामियत्ताए भविस्सइत्ति कटु।
