"समाधिकारक स्वाध्याय" जिस प्रकार सातों स्वर और रागों का समय नियत हैं-जिस समय का जो राग होता है, यदि उस समय पर गायन किया जाय, तो वह अवश्य आन्नदप्रद होता है, और समयविरुद्ध राग अलापा गया तब वह सुखदाई नही होता, ठीक उसी प्रकार शास्त्रों के स्वाध्याय के विषय में भी जानना चाहिए। और जिस प्रकार विद्यारम्भ संस्कार के पूर्व ही विवाह संस्कार और भोजन के पश्चात् स्नानादि क्रियाएँ सुखप्रद नहीं होती, और जिस प्रकार समय का ध्यान न रखते हुए असंबद्ध भाषण करना कलह का उत्पादक माना जाता है, ठीक उसी प्रकार बिना विधि के किया हुआ स्वाध्याय भी लाभदायक नही होता। और जिस प्रकार लोग शरीर पर यथा स्थान वस्त्र धारण करते हैं - यदि वे बिना विधि के तथा विपरीतांगों में धारण किए जाएँ, तो उपहास के योग्य बन जाते हैं। ठीक इसी प्रकार स्वाध्याय के विषय में भी जानना चाहिए। अतः सिद्ध हआ कि विधि पूर्वक किया हुआ स्वाध्याय ही समाधिकारक माना जाता है।
