पदार्थान्वयः-अहावरा-इसके अनन्तर चउत्थी-चतुर्थी उवासग-उपासक पडिमा-प्रतिमा प्रतिपादन की है । जैसे-सव्व-धम्म-सर्व-धर्म-विषयक रुई-रुचि यावि भवति होती है। तस्स-उसके बहूइं-बहुत से सीलवय-शील-व्रत गुण-गुण-व्रत वेरमण-विरमण-व्रत पच्चक्खाण-प्रत्याख्यान और पोसहोववासाइं-पौषधोपवास आत्मा में सम्म-भली भाँति पट्टवियाई-प्रस्थापित किये भवंति-होते हैं णं-और से-वह सामाइयं-सामायिक और देसावगासियं-देशावकाशिक व्रत की सम्म-सम्यक् प्रकार से अणुपालित्ता-अनुपालना करने वाला भवति-होता है । से णं और वह फिर चउद्दसि-चतुर्दशी अट्ठमि-अष्टमी उदिट्ठ-अमावस्या और पुण्णमासिणीसु-पौर्णमासी आदि पर्व दिनों में पडिपुण्णं-प्रतिपूर्ण पोसह-पोषध-व्रत को सम्म–सम्यक् प्रकार से अणुपालित्ता-अनुपालन करने वाला भवति-होता है । किन्तु से-वह एगराइयं-एक रात्रि की उवासग-पडिम-उपासक-प्रतिमा को सम्म-अजा प्रकार से अणुपालित्ता-अनुपालन करने वाला नो भवति-नहीं होता है । यही चउत्थी-चौथी उवासग-पडिमा-उपासक-प्रतिमा
मूलार्थ-अब चौथी उपासक-प्रतिमा कहते हैं । इस प्रतिमा वाले को सर्व-धर्म-विषयक रुचि होती है | उसके बहुत से शील, गुण, विरमण, प्रत्याख्यान और पौषधोपवास व्रत अपने आत्मा में स्थापित किये होते हैं । वह सामायिक और देशावकाशिक व्रतों की आराधना उचित रीति से करता है, चतुर्दशी, अष्टमी, अमावास्या और पौर्णमासी आदि पर्व दिनों में प्रतिपूर्ण पौषध-व्रत का पूर्णतया अनुपालन करता है । किन्तु 'एक रात्रि की' उपासक-प्रतिमा का सम्यग् आराधन नहीं करता । यही चतुर्थी उपासक-प्रतिमा है।
टीका-इस सूत्र में चौथी प्रतिमा का विषय प्रतिपादन किया गया है । इस प्रतिमा वाला पहली, दूसरी और प्रतिमाओं के सब नियमों का विधि-पूर्वक पालन करता है । वह पर्व-दिनों मे प्रतिपूर्ण पौषध व्रत भी करने लग जाता है । किन्तु वह उपासक की एक रात्रि की कायोत्सर्ग अवस्था में ध्यान करने की-प्रतिज्ञा को सम्यक्तया पालन नहीं कर सकता है ।
