ऐसी स्थिति में उनमें से एक जीव भी एक समय में दो आयुष्यों को वेदता (भोगता-अनुभव करता) 卐 है। यथा-एक ही जीव, इस भव का आयुष्य वेदता है और वही जीव, परभव का भी आयुष्य वेदता है।
जिस समय इस भव के आयुष्य का वेदन करता है, उसी समय वह जीव परभव के आयुष्य का भी । वेदन करता है; यावत् हे भगवन् ! यह (बात) किस प्रकार है ?
[उ. ] गौतम ! उन अन्यतीर्थिकों ने जो यह कहा है कि.... यावत् एक ही जीव, एक ही समय में इस 9 भव का और पर-भव का-दोनों का आयुष्य (एक साथ) वेदता है, उनका यह सब कथन मिथ्या है।
___ - "हे गौतम ! मैं इस प्रकार कहता हूँ, यावत् प्ररूपणा करता हूँ कि जैसे कोई एक जालग्रन्थि हो + और वह यावत्...परस्पर संघटित (सामूहिक रूप से संलग्न) रहती है, इसी प्रकार क्रमपूर्वक बहुत-से
सहस्रों जन्मों से सम्बन्धित, बहुत-से हजारों आयुष्य, एक-एक जीव के साथ शृंखला (साँकल) की ॐ कड़ी के समान परस्पर क्रमशः ग्रथित (गूंथे हुए) यावत् रहते हैं।
(ऐसा होने से) एक जीव एक समय में एक ही आयुष्य का प्रतिसंवेदन (अनुभव) करता है, जैसे ॐ कि-या तो वह इस भव का ही आयुष्य वेदता है, अथवा पर-भव का ही आयुष्य वेदता है। परन्तु जिस + समय इस भव के आयुष्य का प्रतिसंवेदन करता है, उस समय पर-भव के आयुष्य का प्रतिसंवेदन नहीं
करता, और जिस समय परभव के आयुष्य का प्रतिसंवेदन करता है, उस समय इस भव के आयुष्य का प्रतिसंवेदन नहीं करता।
इस भव के आयुष्य का वेदन करने से पर-भव का आयुष्य नहीं वेदा जाता और पर-भव के आयुष्य का वेदन करने से इस भव का आयुष्य नहीं वेदा जाता। ॐ इस प्रकार एक जीव एक समय में एक ही आयुष्य का वेदन करता है; वह इस प्रकार, या तो इस +भव के आयुष्य का, अथवा परभव के आयुष्य का।
1. [Q.] Bhante ! People of other faiths (anyatirthik) or heretics say (akhyanti), assert (bhashanti), elaborate (prajnapayanti) and propagate (prarupayanti) that,
Suppose there is a net in which knots have been tied one after another without a gap in a continuous series and tied to each other. And the said knotted net exists in its entire expanse, in its entire weight, in si its entire expanse and weight, and its integrated form. (In other words the net is one but it is composed of numerous integrated knots.) In the
same way hundreds of thousands of life-spans related to hundreds of 4 thousands of births are progressively intertwined with each other... and 4 so on up to... exist in integrated form.
In these conditions any one of these living beings lives and experiences two life-spans at the same time. Which means that the same being experiences the life-span (ayushya) of this birth (bhava) as well as 卐
