[उ. ] हंता, गोयमा ! जंबुद्दीवे णं दीवे सूरिया उदीण - पाईणमुग्गच्छ जाव उदीचि - पाईणमागच्छंति । ४. [ प्र. ] भगवन् ! जम्बूद्वीप नामक द्वीप में सूर्य क्या उत्तर - पूर्व - ( ईशानकोण) में उदय होकर पूर्व-दक्षिण- (आग्नेयकोण) में अस्त होते ( होने आते हैं ? अथवा आग्नेयकोण में उदय होकर दक्षिण-पश्चिम (नैऋत्यकोण) में अस्त होते हैं ? अथवा नैऋत्यकोण में उदय होकर पश्चिमोत्तर-(वायव्यकोण) में अस्त होते हैं, या फिर पश्चिमोत्तर - ( वायव्यकोण) में उदय होकर उत्तर- 5 पूर्व - ( ईशानकोण) में अस्त होते हैं ?
[उ. ] हाँ, गौतम ! जम्बूद्वीप में सूर्य (उत्तर - पूर्व ) (ईशानकोण) में उदित होकर अग्निकोण (पूर्व-दक्षिण) में अस्त होते हैं, यावत् पूर्वोक्त सम्पूर्ण कथन कहना चाहिए।
4. [Q.] Bhante ! In the continent called Jambudveep do suns rise in 5 5 the north-east (Ishan Kone) and set in the south-east (Agneya Kone ) ? Or 5 5 do they rise in the south-east (Agneya Kone) and set in the south-west 卐 (Nairitya Kone ) ? Or do they rise in the south-west (Nairitya Kone) and set in the north-west (Vayavya Kone)? Or do they rise in the north-west

५. [ प्र. ] जया णं भंते ! जंबुद्दीवे दाहिणड्ढे दिवसे भवति तया णं उत्तरड्ढे दिवसे भवति ? जया णं
5 उत्तरड्ढे दिवसे भवति तया णं जंबुद्दीवे दीवे मंदरस्स पव्वयस्स पुरत्थिम- पच्चत्थिमेणं राई भवति ?
[ उ. ] हंता, गोयमा ! जया णं जंबुद्दीवे दीवे दाहिणड्ढे दिवसे जाव राई भवति ।
५. [ प्र.] भगवन् ! जब जम्बूद्वीप के दक्षिणार्द्ध में दिन होता है, तब क्या उत्तरार्द्ध में भी दिन होता है ? और जब जम्बूद्वीप के उत्तरार्द्ध में दिन होता है, तब क्या मेरु पर्वत से पूर्व-पश्चिम में रात्रि 5 होती है ?

[ उ. ] हाँ, गौतम ! (यह इसी तरह होता है; अर्थात्- ) जब जम्बूद्वीप के दक्षिणार्द्ध में दिन होता है, तब पूर्व-पश्चिम भाग में रात्रि होती है ।
