i. e, four types bad talk, viz., राज्यकथा, देशकथा, भोजनकथा and स्त्रीकथा, four कषायs,

viz., क्रोध, मान, माया and लोभ, faults of five senses, sleep and drink ( पणग, पानक ? ).
(b) पुण्णपावभूमिउ जाणतें, knowing the ( fifteen kind of ) regions where men act ( to acquire merit and demerit ), viz, five in each of भारत, इरावत and विदेह.
( 16 ) (a) सोलह विह कसाय पसमंतें, pacifying the sixteen forms of passion. T. notes these as कषायाः क्रोधमानमायालोमाः प्रत्येकमनन्तानुबन्धिभप्रत्याख्यानप्रत्याख्यानसंज्वलनविकल्पाः सन्तः षोडशविधा भवन्ति.
(b) सोलहविहवयणेसु रमंतें taking delight in sixteen types of expressions. T. records them as follows : - काललिङ्गवचनानि प्रत्येकं त्रीणि नव, तथा वि (?) कोनमिश्रवचनानि श्रोणि समयलोकदृष्टपरोक्षवचनानि चत्वारीति षोडश. The Uttarā has गाहासोलसहि which refers to the sixteen lessons of the first volume of a of which the sixteenth is called गाहज्झयणं.
( 17 ) असं जमोह सत्तार, seventeen types of असंयम, indiscipline; Devendra has enumerated these as follows: असंयमे सप्तदशभेदे पृथिव्यादिविषये तत्संख्यात्वं चास्य तत्प्रतिपक्षस्य संयमस्य सप्तदशभेदत्वात् । यत उक्तम्
पुढवि दग - अगणि- मारुय वणप्फई बि-ति- चउ पणिन्दिअज्जीवे । पेहोपेहममज्जण - परिठवण-मणो-वई-काए ॥
T. has the following explanation : पृथिव्यप्तेजोवायुवनस्पतयः द्वित्रिचतुःपञ्चेन्द्रियाणामप्रतिलेखन (?) दुष्प्रतिलेखनापहत्योपेज्ञानि (?) जीवमनोवाक्कायाः अपहत्य ( ? ) गृहीताण्डादिजन्तून् प्रतिलेख्ये (?) उपेक्षा ( ? )... 1 अथवा -
पचासवेहि विरमणं पश्चिन्दियनिग्गहो कसायजओ । तिहि दण्डेहि य विरदी संजमो सत्तरसभेमो ॥
तत्प्रतिषेधादसंयमः सप्तदशविधः ।

( 18 ) जाणिवि संपराय अट्ठारह having known eighteen types of संपराय viz. ten यतिधर्मs such as क्षान्ति etc, five समितिs and throe गुप्तिs.

(19) एउणवीस वि णाहज्झयणदं having known nineteen lessons or chapters of the book on Illustration ( नाय ज्ञात or न्याय ? ). This is clearly a reference to the sixth Anga of the Jain Canon which in the Svetambara tradition forms the first part of the नायाथम्मकहाओ. This book consists of two parts Nayas, Jñatas or illustrations and T or sacred narratives. Our Mss. invariably read हृ 80 that our reading is नाहज्झयणई. This reading is supported by T. also Uttarā. reads नायज्झयणेसु. The change of Sk. त to ह is not unusual compar भरह for भरत. It also appears that ज्ञात or न्याय constituted at one time an independent work of the Canon to which a small section of I might have been added later. The present text of the in the Svetambara
