5) The basic Sūtras of the Satkhandāgama on which Virasena (C, A, D. 816) has written the Dhavală commentary using, if not i ting, earlier Prākrit commentaries, are a relic of the Pūrvas; and in one Sūtra, while explaining the Śrutajñāna-upayoga, the following eight types are mentioned thus ::
The commentary gives a detailed interpretation of all these, among which Anuprekķā is thus explained:
6) It would be relevant to record here some negative evidence also. The Uttarādhyayana-sūtra, Chapter xxi, Caranavihi, enumerates topics arranged in units of one, two, three, etc. Under the group of twelve there is no mention of Anuprekşā (verse 11). In similar enumerations in the Samavāyanga’ and Āvassayasutta, the list of twelve Anuprekşās is not mentioned. Secondly, in the Panhāvāgaraņāin the five Samvaradvāras are mentioned; but they do not, as in the Tattvärtha-sūtra, include Anuprekşa; and what are mentioned there as Bhāvanās, like those in the Ayāromga, are quite different from Anupreksā for which later on the term Bbāvanā came to be used.
7) The Mahānisiha-sutta enumerates Bhāvanās in this manner:
Tautare i Å GET I four-arquiT, STETTU-271°, gore-7°, 74710, fafara-FET-#1°.

Both language and subject matter, e. g., the occurence of Tantrio sayings, the mention of non-canonical writings, etc., seem to indicate a late origin of this work.'
