उत्तरीकरण सून आत्मा की विशिष्ट शुद्धि के लिए साधक कायोत्सर्ग - ध्यान करता है। कायोत्सर्ग में प्रवेश करने से पूर्व साधक उत्तरीकरण सूत्र स्मरण करता है। इस सूत्र में अपरिहार्य काय-व्यापारों के आगार का वर्णन है। उच्छ्वास (उंचा श्वास), निःश्वास (नीचा श्वास) से लेकर सूक्ष्म-दृष्टि-संचालन तक - ऐसे बारह (अथवा तेरह) आगारों को चित्रों द्वारा स्पष्ट किया गया है। ये शरीर की स्वाभाविक क्रियाएं हैं। उक्त क्रियाओं के चलते हुए भी साधक का कायोत्सर्ग भंग नहीं होता है। ___अंतिम चित्र में साधक प्रतिज्ञाबद्ध होता है - जब तक अरिहंत भगवान को नमस्कार करके कायोत्सर्ग सम्पन्न न कर लूं तब तक एक स्थान पर स्थिर रहकर, मौन रहकर, धर्मध्यान में लीन रहकर स्वयं को सभी पाप-क्रियाओं से पृथक् करता
Uttrikaran Sutra
For the special purification of soul the practiser performs a body detachment meditation (kayotsarga dhyan). Prior to entry into the kayotsarga meditation, the practiser reeiles the Sutra of 'Uttrikaran'.' In this sutra (aphorism) the description of the avoidance of the unavoidable activities of body are made. From inhaling and exhaling to the subtle movement of the sight such twelve (or thirteen) avoidance have been clarified through illustration. These are the natural activities of the physical body. While carrying out all these activities the meditation of body detachment of the practiser is not damaged.
In the last illustration the practiser pledges that bowing before the Lord Arihant until he completes his meditation of body detachment he separates himself from all the sinful activities through a steadfast posture at a fix place, observing silence and indulging in religious activities.
