Chapter 78 NOTHING WEAKER THAN WATER
There is nothing weaker than water, But none is superior to it in overcoming the hard, For which there is no substitute. That weakness overcomes strength And gentleness overcomes rigidity, No one does know; No one can put into practice. Therefore the Sage says: "Who receives unto himself the calurny of the world Is the preserver of the state. Who bears himself the sins of the world Is the king of the world.' Straight words seem crooked.

पानी से दुर्बला कुछ नाली
पानी से दुर्बल कुछ भी नहीं है, लेकिन कठिन को जीतने में उससे बलवान भी कोई नहीं है, उसके लिए उसका कोई पर्याय नहीं है। यह कि दुर्बलता बल को जीत लेती हैं और मृदुता कठोरता पर विजय पाती हैं, इसे कोई नहीं जानता है, इसे कोई व्यवहार में नहीं ला सकता है। इसलिए संत करते हैं: 'जो संसार की गालियों को अपने में समाहित कर लेता है, वह राज्य का संरक्षक हैं। जो संसार के पाप अपने ऊपर ले लेता है, वह संसार का समाठ ।' सीधे शब्द टेढ़े-मेढ़े दिखते हैं।
