Chapter 32
TAO IS LIKE THE SEA
Tao is absolute and has no name. Though the uncarved wood is small, It cannot be employed (used as vessel) by anyone. If kings and barons can keep this unspoiled nature), The whole world shall yield them lordship of their own accord.
The Heaven and Earth join, and the sweet rain falls, Beyond the command of men, yet evenly upon all.
Then human civilization arose and there were names. Since there were names, it were well one knew where to stop. He who knows where to stop may be exempt from danger. Tao in the world may be compared to rivers that run into the sea.

समुदवात ताओ
ताओ परम है और उसका कोई नाम नहीं हैं। यद्यपि यह गैर-तलाशी लकड़ी छोटी सी है, तो भी कोई इसका उपयोग (घड़े की भांति) नहीं कर सकता। यदि सम्राट ऑन भूस्वामी इस निष्कलुष स्वभाव को शुद्ध नव सकें, तो सारा संसार उन्हें स्वेच्छा से स्वामित्व प्रदान कनेगा।
जब स्वर्ग और पृथ्वी आलिंगन में होते हैं, तब मीठी-मीठी वर्षा होती है। आँर यद्यपि वह मनुष्य के वश के बाहर है, तो भी सब के ऊपर समान रूप से बरसती हैं।
ऑन तब मानवीय सभ्यता का उदय हुआ और नाम आ गए। आँर जब नाम आ गए, तब आदमी के लिए जान लेना उचित था कि कहां रुक जाना है, और जो जानता है कि कठां रुकना है, वह नवतनों से बच सकता है। संसार में ताओ की तुलना उन नदियों से की जाए, जो बह कर समुद्र में समा जाती है।
