duḥşama-suşamā ārā (non-bracing-bracing era). 21,000 years make one duhsamā ārā (non-bracing era). 21,000 years make one duhsama-duhsamā ārā (non-bracing non-bracing era ).. (This is about the avasarpini or descension phase of the timecycle). Again, in the utsarpini ( ascension) phase, 21,000 years make the duhsama-duhsamā ārā, another 21,000 years... till four kotakoti sāgaropamas make one suṣamă-suşamā ārā., Thus ten kotākoți sāgaropamas make one avasarpiņī or descension phase and another ten kotākoți săgaropamas make one utsarpiņī or ascension phase. (Thus a total of) twenty koṭākoți sāgaropamas make one avasarpini utsarpini (complete time-cycle).

प्रश्न ११७ - जंबूद्दीवे णं भंते ! दीवे इमीसे उस्सप्पिणीए सुसम सुसमाए उत्तमट्ठपत्ताए भरहरूस वासस्स केरिसिए आयार भावपडोयारे

उत्तर ११७ - गोयमा ! बहुसमरमणिज्जे भूमिभागे होत्था से जहा णामए आलिंगपुरक्खरे इ वा । एवं उत्तरकुरुवत्तव्वया णेयव्वा जाव... आसयंति सयंति। तीसे णं समाए भारहे वासे तत्थ तत्थ देसे देसे तहिं तहिं बहवे उराला कुद्दाला जाव... ..कुसविकुसविसुद्ध रुक्खमूला जाव... छव्विहा मणुस्सा अणुसज्जित्था । तं जहा - पम्हगंधा मियगंधा अममा तेयली सहा सणिचारा ।
