Bhagavati Sūtra Bk. 5 Ch. 1
In that period, at that time, Śramaņa Bhagavān Mahāvīra had a senior-most disciple in a monk named Indrabhūti who belonged to the Gautama line,... till he made the following submission :

प्रश्न १ - जंबूद्दीवे णं भंते ! दीवे सूरिया उदीण पाईणमुग्गच्छ पाईणदाहिणमागच्छति पाईण दाहिणमुग्गच्छ दाहिण-पडीणमागच्छंति दाहिण-पडीणमुग्गच्छ पडीण उदीणमागच्छंति षडीण - उदीणमुग्गच्छ उदीण पाईणमागच्छंति ?
उत्तर १ - हंता गोयमा ! जंबूद्दीवे णं दीवे सूरिया उदीण-पाईणमुग्गच्छ जाव... उदीण - पाईणमागच्छंति ।
प्रश्न २ - जगणं भंते! जंबूद्दीवे दीवे दाहिणड्ढे दिवसे हवइ तया णं उत्तरढेऽवि दिवसे भवइ जया णं उत्तरड्ढेऽवि दिवसे भवइ तया णं जंबूदीवे दीवे मंदरस्स पव्वयस्स पुरत्थिमपच्चत्थिमे णं राई हवइ ?
जया णं जंबूद्दीवे दीवे दाहिणड्ढे वि दिवसे जाव
उत्तर २ - हंता गोयमा ! ... राई भवइ ।
प्रश्न ३ - जया णं भंते! जंबूदीवे दीवे मंदरस्स पव्वयस्स पुरत्थि मे णं दिवसे भवइ तथा णं पच्चत्थिमेण वि दिवसे भवइ जया णं पञ्चत्थिमे णं दिवसे भवइ तया णं जंबूदीवे दीवे मंदरस्स पव्वयस्स उत्तर- दाहिणे णं राई भवइ ?
जया णं जंबूदीवे दीवे मंदरपुरत्थिमे णं दिवसे
उत्तर ३ - हंता गोयमा जाव... राई भवइ ।
Q. 1. Bhante! In the isle called Jambudvipa, does the sun rise in the north-east and set in in the south-east ? Does it rise in the south-east and set in in the south-west ? Does it rise in the south-west and set in in the north-west ? Does it rise in the north-west and set in in the north-east ?
A. 1. Yes, Gautama, the sun rises in the north-east,... till comes back to the north-east 1.
