1. First he catches fish on the banks of a river or sea and eats the raw fish; he is civilized by reason of his devising means to ends.
2. He goes inland and finds, kills and eats animal flesh.
3. He domesticates the animals and lives on the produce of the animal.
4. He tills the ground and becomes an agriculturist and lives on the produce.
