Dr. Vilas A. Sangave
Dr. Vilas A. Sangave, an eminent sociologist was born on 2nd June, 1920 in a Jain family at Sholapur in Maharashtra. He retired in 1980 as Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, and since then he has been working as Honorary Director of Sahu Research Institute of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He has to his credit a number of research papers, several books on sociology and social anthropology in Marathi and English. "Jaina Community : A Social Survey', “Life and Legacy of Mahavira : A Social Study', 'History of Dakshin Bharat Jain Sabha' and 'Sacred Shravana-belagola' are Dr. Sangave's significant contributions to studies in Jain history and sociology A renowned speaker in English, Marathi and Hindi and associated with several universities and institutions of social sicence and research, Dr. Sangave has been specially honoured by the University of Cambridge (U.K.) in 1985 and by the Government of Bihar in 1989.
