THE TEACHERS
Swami Order from his guru, Swami Premananda. He divides his time between Baltimore and the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
Shree Chitrabhanu has been the leading exponent of Jain meditation teachings in the West since 1971. He has now founded seventeen Jain temples in North America. He was formerly a Jain monk in India for many years; he also observed a vow of silence for some time. A native of India, Shree Chitrabhanu regularly writes, lectures, and teaches about Jain meditation. He lives with his wife in New York City and in Bombay, India.
Wayne Teasdale, a Connecticut native, is a Christian sannyasi, and he regularly gives retreats and lectures on the contemplative, mystical life. He serves on the board of the Parliament of World Religions and he is the coordinator of the Bede Griffiths International Trust. He received a Ph.D in mystical theology from Fordham University in 1986. His spiritual mentor, Bede Griffiths, initiated him into Christian Sannyasa at Shantivanam ashram in South India in 1989. Brother Wayne lives in Chicago where he is adjunct professor at Catholic Theological Union, DePaul University, and Columbia College.
Bhante Henepola Gunaratana is one of the most internationally respected teachers of Vipassana meditation. He continues to travel the world in his mission to spread the Buddhadhamma. His preceptor was Ven. Kiribatkumbure Sanuttara Mahathera. He worked for the Mahabodhi Society among the "harijans" (the untouchable caste) in India for several years. He has a Ph.D in philosophy from American University where he served as Buddhist chaplain. He is past president of the Washington Buddhist Vihara. Bhante Gunaratana, a native of Sri Lanka, is the founder and resident director of the Bhavana Society Forest Monastery and Retreat Center in West Virginia.
