After his attainment of the Kevala Jnana, he is said to have spent fourteen rainy seasons in Rāyagiha and Nalandā, six in Mihilā, four in Vesāli and Vāņiyagāma; two in Bhaddiyā and one each at Alabhiyā, Paniyabhūmi, Sāvatthi and Pāvā. From the identification of a few of these places, it appears that the field of influence of Mahāvīra roughly formed the modern provinces of Bihar and some parts of Bengal and U.P. It may at the same time be noted that "the list is neither exhaustive nor chronological, though covering broadly the forty-two years of his itinerary."92
