(५२२) fought. सरस्वतीदृशद्वत्योर्देवनद्योर्यदन्तरम् । तं देवनिर्मितं देशं ब्रह्मावर्त प्रचक्षते ॥ .. [ मनु].
Stanza 46- क्षतजकलुषाः - rendered turbid by the blood. क्षताबणाज्जायते इति क्षतजम् । लोहितमित्यर्थः । तेन कलुषाः आविलाः क्षतजकलुषाः। 'कलुषं किल्बिषे क्लीबमाविलं कलुषे त्रिषु' इति विश्वलोचने। अमोघशस्त्राः - carrying unfailing weapons. अमोघानि सफलानि शस्त्राणि आयुधानि येषां ते अमोघशस्त्राः । ' मोघस्तु निष्फले दीने' इति विश्वलोचने। प्रतिहननतः पापभीताः - afraid of the sin incurred by slaughtering. प्रतिहननतः on account of slaughtering. प्रतियुयुधिरे - made a counter-attack. क्षत्रप्रधनपिशुनम् - indicative of the battles fought by the Ksatriyas. क्षत्राणांक्षत्रियाणां प्रधनं युद्ध क्षत्रप्रधनम् । 'प्रधनं दारुणे सङ्ख्ये' इति विश्वलोचने । तस्य पिशुनं सूचकं क्षत्रप्रधनपिशुनम् । 'पिशुनो नारदे पुंसि खलसूचकयोस्त्रिषु' इति विश्वलोचने ।
Stanza 47-धारापातैः - by means of discharges of showers. धाराणा जलधाराणां पाताः उत्सर्गाः धारापाताः। तेः। गाण्डीवधन्वा - Arjuna. गाण्डी पर्वाऽस्यास्तीति गाण्डीवम् | The possessive termination व is affixed to the word गाण्डी under the rule ' गाण्डयादिभ्यः '. गाण्डीवं धनुरस्य गाण्डीवधन्वा | In the Bahuvrihi compound the word धनुस् is placed at the end of the compound only when the compound implies 'a designation' under the rule 'धनुः खो'. This implies that when the compound implies 'a designation,' the termination अनङ् ( अन् ) also is affixed to the word धनुस्. शितशरशतैः - by means of hundreds of sharpened arrows. शिताः तीक्ष्णाः च ते शराः बाणाः च शितशराः। तेषां शतानि । तैः । राजन्यानां - of the warriors. राज्ञः अपत्यं राजन्यः। The termination य, implying ' race' is affixed to the word राजन् under the rule 'जातो राज्ञः '. When the termination य is affixed to the word राजन् , अन् of the word is not dropped under the rule 'येऽडो'.
