Stanza 43- कृष्णशारोदराणा - black and variegated in the interior. कृष्णं च तत् शारं च कृष्णशारम् । कृष्णशारं उदरं मध्यभागः येषां ते । तेषाम् । This way of dissolving the compound is possible only when this compound is accepted as an Adjective qualifying पथिकवनितालोचनाल्लासकानाम् . When this is accepted as qualifying सुदृशाम् , meaning 'of beautiful eyes, this compound is to be dissolved as- कृष्णशार उदर मध्यभागः यासा ताः। तासाम् ।. Though the word उदर, standing at the end of this compound, forms part of the body, the air termination ST which is optionally affixed under the rule 'स्वाङ्गान्नीचोऽस्फोङः', is not affixed to it. कुन्दक्षेपानुगमधुकरश्रीमुषाम् -depriving (lit. robbing) the bees following the tossings of the Kunda-flowers or lotuses of their beauty. कुन्दानि कुन्दकुसुमानि कमलानि वा । तेषां क्षेपः इतस्ततश्चलनम् । तमनुगच्छन्तीति, तस्याऽनुगाः अनुसारिण: वा कुन्दक्षेपानुगाः। ते च ते मधुकराः मधुलिहश्च । तेषां श्रीः सौन्दर्य । तां मुष्णन्तीति । किम् । तेषाम् । This compound, being adjectival, qualifjes 91917. This may be taken as qualifyng सुदृशाम् also. कुन्दं - a Kund-flower. कुन्दः - a lotus. In my opinion the word for should be taken to mean “a lotus' and not 'a Kundaflower, for bees are described as not hovering over Kunda-flowers, for gathering honey. पथिकवनितालोचनोल्लासकानाम् – of the glances or sportive movements of the eyes of the wives of the travellers. पथिकाः पन्थानं प्रयान्तः । पथिकानां प्रोषितत्वात्पथि चरतां वनिताः स्त्रियः पथिकवनिताः। तासां लोचनानि नयनानि । तेषां उल्लासकाः विलासाः प्रक्षेपाः प्रभाः वा। तेषाम् । उल्लास एव उल्लासकः। तेषाम् । In my opinion the following interpretation is preferable to the one given above. It runs thus
of the sportive movements of the eyes of the travelling women.' पन्थानं गच्छन्ती स्त्री पथिकी - a travelling woman. पथिक्यश्च ताः वनिताश्च पथिकवनिताः । पथिक्यः स्त्रियः इत्यर्थः । This being a कर्मधारय compound, the termination sê is not to be affixed to the word "19# under the rule 'पुंयोगाद्यजातीयदेशीये'. पथिकवनितानां लोचनानां उल्लासकाः विलासाः
