ĀCĀRYA JINASENA'S WORKS
(i) Ādipurana - Adipurāna is a part of the Mahāpurāna. It consists of about 42 Parvans. The remaining portion of the Mahāpurāṇa is written by Acarya Gunabhadra, the desciple of Acārya Jinasena. Adipurāna is a store of apophthemns. It can be said that Adipurana is a Purana as well as a Mahākāvya, for almost all the characteristics of a Mahakavya are found in it. It is full of sentiments and figures of speech. The language and the ideas conveyed by the language of the Adipurāṇa are very pleasant. The flow of the language is very smooth like that of water having no hindrance. The wonderful imaginative capacity is inherent in the author of the work. The following stanzas are worthy of being quoted here.
The work of writing this Adipurāṇa was undertaken by Acarya Jinasena at the time when the Dhavala commentary was completed by Acārya Virasena, the preceptor of the author of the Parśvābhyudaya.
