Pearls of Jaina Wisdom
and Košala, the Mallas and Licchavīs instituted an illumination with lighted lamps for they said "since the internal ( bhāva ) light ( of intelligence ) is gone, let us make an illumination with the external ( dravya ) light ( of matter ).” ( Kalpa-sūtra, 127 )
Great personalities appear once in thousands of years but when they come to the earth, they prove to be a great boon to the mankind. The life and teachings of Lord Mahāvīra have inspired millions of people to take the noble path preached by him. The three principles of Ahiṁsā ( non-violence ), Anekānta ( non-absolutism ) and Aparigraha ( non-possession ) will guide mankind for all time to come.
