________________ अष्टकप्रकरणम् 111 jñāpakaṁ cātra bhagavān nişkrānto’pi dvijanmane. devadūsyam dadaddhīmānanukampāvišeşataḥ. There is also an instance, of the enlightened Lord Mahāvīra ( illustrating the charity of monks ) of gifting away his devadüşya ( the celestial cloth ) to the Brahmin, because of compassion, even after renunciation. itthamāśayabhedena nāto'dhikaranam matam. apitvadanyadguṇasthānaṁ guņāntaranibandhanam. Thus it, ( this act of charity ) with a particular ( compassionate ) disposition of mind, is not to be considered as sinful, instead ( be known ) as the cause of the other ( 6th ) stage of spiritual development ( of monks ) in succession to that ( 5th one of the laities ). ye tu dānam praśassantītyādisūtram tu yatsmộtam. avasthābhedavisayam drastavyaṁ tanmahātmabhiḥ. The aphorisms like propounding, “Those who praise charity etc.” be considered so in a particular context by the great saints. evaṁ na kaścidasyārthastattvato'smātprasiddhyati. apūrvaḥ kintu tatpūrvamevaṁ karma prahīyate. Thus, by Seer's charitable act, no new purpose is really achieved but by it the old karmas are destructed. Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
