________________ DELEU JOZEF A. C., was born in 1925 at Alveringem, West Flanders. He studied Germanic Philology and, in 1947-48, Sanskrit (under A. Scharpe) and Tocharian (under W. Couvreur) at the State University of Ghent. He graduated in 1957 on a dissertation entitled "De Prabandhakosa van Rajasekharasuri." From 1958 to 1963 he worked as a researcher of the Belgian National Foundation for Scientific Research. He was awarded a travelling scholarship that allowed him to study Jaina Prakrit (under W. Schubring and L. Alsdorf) at the University of Hamburg in 1959. In 1963 he took the degree of 'Geaggregeerde H.O.' at the University of Ghent, where, subsequently, he was appointed 'Geaggregeerde' of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy.
