________________ 190 THE SACRED BOOKS OF THE JAINAS. अहवा मएणसि मज्झ अप्पा अप्याण मप्पणो कुणदि। एसो मिच्छपहावो तुझं एवं भणंतस्स ॥ ३६७ ।। अथवा मन्यसे ममात्मात्मानमात्मनः कराति । एष मिथ्यास्वभावस्तवैतन्मन्यमानस्य ॥ ३६७ ॥ 367. Or if thou holdest “ my soul causes itself by itself” thy saying this also is perverse thinking. अप्पा णिच्चो असंखिज्जपदेसो देसिदो दु समयम्मि । णवि सो सकदि तत्तो हीणो अहियोव काहुँ जे ॥ ३६८ ॥ आत्मा नित्योऽसंख्येयप्रदेशो दर्शितस्तु समये । नापि स शक्यते ततो हीनोऽधि कश्च कर्तुं यत् ॥ ३६८ ॥ . 368. In the scriptures, the soul is said to be eternal and having innumerable spatial units. And that soul is never capable of causing itself to be less or more. जीवस्त जीवरूवं विच्छरिदो जाण लोगमितं हि । तत्तो किं सोहीणो अहियोव कदं भएसि दव्वं ॥ जीवस्य जीवस्वरूपं विस्तरतो जानीहि लोकमानं हि । ततः स किं हीनोऽधिको वा कथं करोति द्रव्यम् ॥ ३६६ ॥ 369. Know the soul's own nature, from (the point of view of) expansion, to be co-extensive with the universe. How does thou say that this substance is more or less than that ? जह जाणगोदु भावो णाणसहावेण अस्थि देदि मदं । तमा णवि अप्पा भप्पयं तु सयमप्पणो कुणदि ॥ ३७०॥ अथ ज्ञायकस्तु भावो ज्ञानस्वभावेन मतम् । तस्मानाप्यात्मात्मानं स्वयमात्मनः करोति ॥ ३७० ॥ 370. The knowing substance exists with its knowing nature. In this view, the soul never causes (creates) the soul from itself.
