________________ Bliss as an Attribute of the Soul :: 167 emphasis is laid on bliss which includes existence and consciousness.' It may be taken to mean that bliss is a distinct element in the soul's structure, but it cannot lead to the negation of other elements. Really speaking the soul is a plurality of such faculties and negation of anyone of them will not be its faithful description. The Jaina cannot reduce bliss to knowledge or vice versa merely on the ground that the two are seen together. The reduction or inclusion of any one faculty of the soul into any other should be taken to mean the dominance of the latter over the former which a system of discourse may require. Bliss as a faculty of feeling is present both in the mundane souls and the liberated ones. 1.
