Appendix 'B'
Samavāyānga (35) describes thirty-five special characteristics of speech, which are as under:
1. Samsakāratva: Speech to be refined with grammar.
2. Udātattva: Speech to be spoken on high pitch (with lofty sound).
3. Upacāropetatva : Speech to be devoid of vulgarity.
4. Gambhiraśabdatva: Speech to be profound like clouds.
5. Anunāditva: Speech to be resonant.
6. Dākṣinatva: Speech to be easy.
7. Upanitarăgatva : Speech to be endowed with musical melodious mode or variations.
8. Mahārthatva: Speech to be impregnated with an expression of essential truth.
9. Avyāhatapaurvāparyatva: Speech to be non-contradictory to the preceding and following.
10. Śistatva: Speech to be decent.
11. Asandigdhatva: Speech to be free from doubt propounding definite meaning.
12. Apahṛtānyottaratva: Speech to be free from any fault to be pointed out by others.
13. Hṛdayagrahitva: Speech to be captivating.
14. Deśakālāvyatitva: Speech to be compatible with the time and space. 15. Tattvānurūpatva: Speech to be in accordance with desirous object. 16. Aprakirna prasṛtatva : Speech to be well arranged and opposed to unnecessary extension.
17. Anyonyapragrahita : Speech to be equipped with mutually related
terms.
