________________ 54 Sallekhana in Practice was in Śaka year 1311 ( 1389 A. D.) Sukla Samvatsara, 14th day of the dark half of Kārtīka.25 Kalagowda, the son of Gôpagowda and the disciple of śubhacandra-deva died by samadhi and attained heavenly abode on Thursday, 13th day of the bright half of Āsādha Angirasa Samvatsara ( 1392 A. D. ). 26 The fifth stone near the temple Hire-Avali records that during the reign of Harihara Rāya, Canda Gaundi, the wife of Canda Gaunda who was the leader of the Jiddulige Nadu adopted the vow of samnyāsana and attained salvation after observing it according to rites. This was on the 12th day of the month of Aşadha, bright half, Śaka year 1321 ( 1398 A. D.). She worshipped at the feet of Pārśva Jina and meditated near the lotus feet of Vi jayakīrti. She happily reached the world of Indra, 21 The third stone in the enclosure to the Padmavati temple at Humcha (District Shimoga), records that Pāyanna of Pombuciia, the son of Mallappa adopted the vow of Sallekhanā, went into meditation, left the body and reached the heaven on the 3rd day in the bright half of the month of Mārgaśīrṣa in Saka year 1321 ( 1398 A. D.). 2 8 Great tributes have been paid to Pandita who ascended to the seat of gods on Friday, the 14th day of Magha in the Śaka year 1320 ( 1398 A. D.), peacefully praising the feet of Jinendra and making a profound exposition of knowledge. He had secured the great estimation of all those who had acquir. ed full knowledge of the supreme path. He died in the presence of Abhinava Pandita Deva Sūri who was his disciple and whom he had led into his own path of penance. This inscription is unique in that it opens with the praise of all the twenty four Tīrt hankaras, the Ganadharas and the Sruta Kevalins. Reference is made to “yatîndra Kundakunda " the esteemed Umäsvāti “the yarisa” who had composed the Tattvärtha Sūtra which is a guide to those who want to follow the path of liberation. 25.
