तारायणो
collect stars from the sky, which has sound as its quality (saddaguna) and within which the multitude of objects is located (paritthiyattha) (6), and, commanded by the connoisseurs of poetry that have hundreds of merits, compiled this anthology called Tārāyana (Sk. Tārāgana) which is full of shortcomings. (7)
The name and epithets of the original poet जेसि जाणिहइ जणो सुहेण कोसम्मि संचरंतो' हि । ताई सुभणिय-निहिणो कइणो नामाई वोच्छामि ॥ ८ जाणिहइ बप्पभट्टि गुणाणुरायं च भद्दइति च ।। तह गयवइवइमायरियं च सेय-भिक्खं च वाई च ॥ ९ गाथाद्वयं सुगममिति ।।
I shall now mention those names of the poet-who is a treasure-house of Subhāșitas--, which a reader, going through the antho. logy, will indeed come to know (8): He will know him as Bappabhatti, Gunanuraya (Sk. Gunanuraga), Bhaddaitti (Sk. Bhadrakirti), Gayavai (Sk. Gajapati), Ayariya (Sk. Acārya), Sey abhikkhu (Sk. Svetabhikṣu) and Väi (Sk. Vādin). (9)

It is the poet Bappabhatti's inner knowledge that encompasses the three worlds. How can anybody else compose (lit, 'say') (a Gathā with the key word) baddhekka-kakkadayam ? (10) 1. संचरतेहि.
