________________ Chapter 1: Background 16 soul. Devotion for and worship of the omniscient Lords and Guru are useful to most aspirants, especially in initial development. That approach maintains balanced life and enables one to proceed on the path of liberation. This stanza can also be interpreted without reference to those two stanzas. In that case, this stanza can be considered as establishing the general criteria for the truth seekers. Such people should be willing to accept the truth in every situation and put it into practice. They should have the discretion to understand what is right and what is wrong, and be willing to adopt the right and discard the wrong. This should be done, irrespective of the tradition in which they might have been brought up. Their objective should be to seek the truth from whatever corner it comes forth. For that purpose they need to have an open mind. Moreover, they should be prepared to notice their own deficiencies as well as drawbacks, and should be willing to adjust their life, if necessary. In other words, they should be guided by the criterion of the right and wrong, and be willing to act accordingly. સેવે સદ્ગુરુચરણને, ત્યાગી દઈ નિજપક્ષ; પામે તે પરમાર્થને, નિજપદનો લે લક્ષ.
