________________ 13 Ätmasiddhi another viewpoint, the second line of this stanza states that if detachment, etc. are practiced with the purpose of attaining selfrealization, they can be instrumental in achieving the knowledge of Self. Thus this stanza shows the importance of detachment and renouncement as the means for attaining the true knowledge of Self. ત્યાગ વિરાગ ન ચિત્તમાં, થાય ન તેને જ્ઞાન; અટકે ત્યાગ વિરાગમાં, તો ભૂલે નિજભાન. Jain Education International 11911 Enlightenment is unattainable without having renouncement and detachment at heart; but if one gets stuck with them, he would miss the Self. Explanation & Discussion: The term 'renouncement' is usually understood as giving up worldly life. Such external renouncement is useful, but does not necessarily indicate the internal sense of renouncement.
