________________ 219 Ätmasiddhi in some respect. The pure soul is absolute consciousness, which stays tuned to its nature of knowing and witnessing. If the soul had been devoid of any activity in its pure state, it would be turned into a lifeless substance. Staying tuned to its nature is therefore the lasting activity of the soul. Since every activity can be termed as "Karma" in a special sense, the unimpassioned knowing and witnessing by a pure soul can also be considered "Karma". In that sense, even the liberated soul can be treated as Kartä of such "Karma". Logically therefore it should "bear" the consequences, which it actually does in a way, by experiencing bliss. But "bearing" is a misnomer here. We can talk of the worldly soul as bearing the consequences, because it has the sense of doing something and of bearing the comforts or discomforts arising as the consequence of its Karma. The liberated soul, however, stays in perfect bliss. That results in experiencing pure consciousness. In other words, bliss is the consequence of remaining within true nature, which is availed by the pure soul. But availing of that bliss is non-conceptual. While availing that, the liberated soul has no concept of 'I', 'me', or 'mine'. That nonconceptuality is the essence of absolute bliss. Thus the question of bearing the consequence does not arise here. Since the liberated soul forever stays blissfully aware of its consciousness, it would simply be a formality to state that such a soul avails of the said consequence.
