________________ 113 Ätmasiddhi In this respect Shrimad stated (Vachanamrut # 718) that the body cannot be the basis, because it is manifestly lifeless. If one says that consciousness itself knows its own emergence and extinction, that amounts to begging the question, because thereby one has to admit of the consciousness as knowing its own emergence and extinction! It is anomalous to say that, and such a statement merely amounts to a verbal aberration. To say that the soul knows its emergence and extinction, but it does not last, is analogous to someone saying that he has no tongue. Therefore, nobody knows about the emergence and extinction of the soul. જેના અનુભવ વશ્ય એ, ઉત્પન્ન લયનું જ્ઞાન; તે તેથી જુદા વિના, થાય ન કેમે ભાન. IIS 311 Jenä Anubhav Vashya E, Utpanna Layanun Jnän; Te Tethi Judä Vinä, Thäy Na Keme Bhän. The knowledge of such emergence and extinction can in no way arise, unless the agency experiencing that knowledge is different from the object. - 63 Jain Education Internationala For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
