.... अथ मदस्थानाधिकारः ॥७॥ ज्ञात्वा भवपरिवर्ते जातीनां कोटिशतसहस्रेषु । हीनोत्तममध्यत्वं को जातिमदं बुधः कुर्यात् ? ॥८१॥
7. On Pride. Which wise man, who has comprehension of the lower, higher and intermediate (state of) innumerable (Lit. lakhs and crores) births in the revolving mundane world will have pride of caste ? 81.
नैकान् जातिविशेषानिन्द्रियविनिवृत्तिपूर्वकान् सत्त्वाः ।
कर्मवशाद्गच्छन्त्यत्र कस्य का शाश्वती 5 जातिः ? ॥८२।। On account of Karma, all beings obtain various kinds of births having (different) sense organs. In this (state of affairs) which being would have a permanent caste and (that too) which ? 82.
रूपवलश्रुतमतिशीलविभवपरिवर्जितांस्तथा दृष्ट्वा । ... . विपुलकुलोत्पन्नानपि ननु कुलमानः परित्याज्यः ।।८३॥
Looking at the fact that people born even in high families are devoid of beauty, strength, learning, intellect, right conduct, wealth, the pride of family should indeed be abandoned. 83.
यस्याशुद्धं शीलं प्रयोजनं तस्य किं कुलमदेन ? ।
स्वगुणाभ्यलकृतस्य हि किं शीलवतः कुलमदेन ? ||८४॥ What is the use of family pride for a man whose conduct is impure ? Similarly, what is the use of family pride for a man who is adorned with his own virtues and good conduct ? 84.
कः शुक्रशोणितसमुद्भवस्य सततं चयापचयिकस्य ।
रोगजरापाश्रयिणो मदावकाशोऽस्ति रूपस्य ? ॥८५॥ Where is the scope of pride of form (=physical charm), which is the product of semen and blood, which perpetually grows and decays and again which is the abode of disease and old age? 85.
नित्यपरिशीलनीये त्वङ्मांसाच्छादिते कलुषपूर्णे । निश्चयविनाशधर्मिणि रूपे मदकारणं किं स्यात् ? ॥८६॥
Where is the reason to be proud of form which is co be cleansed daily, which is covered by skin and flesh, (and) full of curbidity and which is decidedly perishable ? 86.
