It is a life of renunciation with readiness to suffer all afflictions due to nudity, barefooted walking and sleeping on bare ground with a restricted a diet only once a day, if possible, spending all the time in study, preaching and meditation is what an ascetic stands for. It is in the fulfilment of the ethics and spiritual requirements of that life that his salvation lies.
